It was a tug on my spirit to leave magical Mürren and the Berner  Oberland – so happy I fit in an hour sunrise walk before breakfast and our 7 HOUR BUS RIDE!!!

At least it was filled with more gorgeous scenery of fertile farmland, rolling green hills, some hilltop vineyards and several large lakes with shimmering turquoise colored waters and the occasional marina.  Plus we saw a few frolicking ibex on a mountain side!!

We passed Interlaken which straddles the Aare River connecting two dazzling alpine lakes, Lake Brienz and Lake Thun.  We drove along side the waterfalls where Sherlock Holmes met his fictional demise!  We saw signs for Lucern, and could see the popular Lake Zurich in the distance for quite a stretch. 

A “heat wave” continues in Munich with temperatures at 90°F at our check in to Hotel AM Viktualienmarkt, just a couple blocks away from the Viktualiemarkt public market and centrally located in Old Town and to a variety of transit options.  

Our group, without the direction of our tour guide, self assembled and walked the few streets over to Marianplatz where New Town Hall – looking much like a towering, Gothic cathedral – houses the Rathaus-Glockenspiel, a large mechanical clock known for its life-size characters. “The clock twice daily re-enacts scenes from Munich’s history. First is the story of the marriage of Duke Wilhem V to Renata of Lorraine in 1568, followed by the story of the Schäfflertanz, also known as the coopers’ dance.” (Wikipedia)

We had our brief orientation tour followed by a traditional Bavarian dinner of our choice at Iberl Büehne  – mine was pork sausages and THE BEST EVER sauerkraut I have had in my life!!!  Apple strudel for dessert and thankfully, a decent walk back to the hotel.  Tomorrow we have a full day to explore!
