Camino Commonality

Sunday, April 20, Milladoiro to Santiago de Compostela, 6.2 miles, 1.5 hours – and later walking to total 10.26 miles on the day

Monday, April 21 – Out and About, 8.6 miles

Uplifting textures of my life’s weaving and this particular pilgrimage instigated my ultimate roving today.  I set out, not wanting to nor having the energy.  It was cold yet not raining, my body was sore.  I encountered so many pilgrims coming in to their final steps and smiled, winked and acknowledged them.  And the tears just flowed and flowed and flowed! I found myself more jubilant for them than I did for myself yesterday… I don’t get it, but what can I say?!

I made my way to the public market to enjoy my beloved percebes!!!  They taste like the ocean smells, and I dream of them – ever since I discovered them my first Camino!! They are “barnacles”, risky to harvest and messy to eat!  OMG, OMG!!! I also had some razor clams and a scallop!! This is a highlight of my culinary escapade in Spain!!

The sun appeared and the effect on my mood was astounding!  I continued to see pilgrims entering town and my emotions overwhelmed me!!

I checked in with mi amiga from Tel Aviv who I committed to having an afternoon meet up with!  We had an amazing walk through the entire Alameda Park, and ultimately had some vino and cheese at “my place”.

We had a lively conversation about our lives and philosophies in general, and then reluctantly parted ways.  I was with her on day one, several days in between, and though we walked somewhat different routes, we ended up coming into Santiago de Compostela not only the same day – basically the same hour, which we discovered as we compared notes!! A heartwarming, albeit brief, relationship!!

I also checked in with Mary from Canada, and wished I would’ve done so earlier as our paths were pretty much on top of each other!  Unfortunately, when I reached out she was already at the bus station.  She gave me such strong words of encouragement though that I really felt the Camino connection – bolstering from a fellow peregrina!!

The Camino – ahhhhh!

  1. More great pictures! That meal looked delicious! Did you save that perfect scallop shell?

    1. Darn!!! I didn’t think to keep that shell!! The one I’ve used in the past and came with this time broke mid Camino and I did end up buying a smaller souvenir version, like a sucker. A truly Galician one would have been a prize! You should’ve been along advise me!!

Robbie.. I was following you on your very first Camino.. I don’t see the photos on here.. Are they under a different name or travel story title?? I really wanted to do that walk one day..
I am not sure if I will ever be able to.. My back is worse than first diagnosed.. Even standing up for 15 minutes is extremely painful and I am extremely tired of the pain… but I added this website to my apps, because I am following another person who writes on here sometimes..
I am really happy that you are able to travel to Spain frequently, or maybe it isn’t as often as you want to?? But I am glad that you are having a great time..
    Enjoy!!

    1. Mi Amiga, Barb!! Nice to hear from you!! I am so very fortunate and extremely grateful for my relatively pain free agility. I am really sorry to hear of your continuing and extreme back pain – I can’t begin to imagine how horrible that would be. 😩😩😩😩All of my past blogs with pictures should be here, you just need to navigate back to the earlier pages or click on the “blog” choice to access by title or date. I have SOOO LOVED Spain and again recognize how fortunate I am to go so many times! Our son and his fiancé actually moved there a year ago and of course I have planned a visit!! And of course I have chosen to walk another Camino while I’m at it – it will be my 7th!! Stay tuned, I begin May 31st!

      1. I left you a message of thanks, love ,forgiveness and your generosity to me.. But I don’t see it?? I did rather ramble along..
I have nothing but total respect for your ability to just go to Spain..
For me?? The idea of even getting into the airport and getting my plane ticket just boggles my brain.. So I used to be brave, but I don’t think that now…

Anyway have a lovely Spring when it gets here..
        Take care of yourself..

        Peace~~~

      2. I am sorry I didn’t reply to this earlier. Thanks as always for your support and encouragement! It does take bravery and for sure down to the very details of buying plane tickets – truly! I fret every time and it always takes me out of my comfort zone. Each piece accomplished does make me feel empowered afterwards. I know your back is a preventing factor, too though. As I said, and mean sincerely – I walk for you, as well as other loved ones, so you can enjoy a bit vicariously! Take good care!
