Day 5 of walking
Thankfully we tiptoed out of our albergue at 6:30 a.m., had a quick breakfast across the square and were able to get two hours in before the rain started. We had a higher elevation gain than yesterday and it was another grueling day. The rain was mild and of little annoyance – for awhile. Until it wasn’t. And then it made for a most unpleasant afternoon and at the conclusion of our day, we were all frozen to the bone.
I also missed a turn and my last half hour was harrowing and had me in a bit of a panic. Yet with constant prayers to God for protection and guidance (and a few tears) I managed to find my way into town right when my peeps were arriving Today we walked from Deba to Markina-Xemein, 27 km, 17.25 miles, and stayed at (the very cold) (clothes not drying cold) Convento de Los Padres. Tomorrow looks to be much the same.
